Whitetail Deer Breeding Operation Seeks Summer Internship

Thompson Trophy Whitetails, in Sonora, Texas, is looking for the perfect Intern for the summer whitetail fawning season. Employment dates will be the months of June, July, and August of 2019, with date flexibility pertaining to end of the Spring Semester and beginning of the Fall Semester.

We are seeking an individual who is willing to learn, is self-motivated, and who enjoys working in a family ranch atmosphere.

Our Interns will work in a positive hands on environment each and every day. If chosen, the individual will work with ranch staff members and the ranch manager who are eager to share their knowledge with the right individual to help further their career path.

Days off and times will very throughout the season and be determined by the ranch manager. The deer industry is unpredictable, however the staff will do their very best to give the individual appropriate time off from their ranch duties.

Snake boots will be required.

Experience is preferred, but not required.

Qualifications: Must have a clean background. Must have a valid driver’s license and dependable transportation. Must possess a willingness to learn, the ability to follow directions, and to accept constructive criticism. Must have the ability to relate well with others and be able to multitask. Must be able to work in extreme Texas weather conditions. Must be willing to work early, late evenings, and into the night if necessary.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

Walking all the deer pens numerous times a day looking for newborn fawns and checking the overall herd health of the deer. Candidate will learn to administer medications as needed.

Handling, vaccinating, chipping, tagging, and record keeping on newborn fawns.

Assisting in the bottle raising process of newborn fawns.

Assist in filling feeders (must be able to lift 50 lbs.) and cleaning water troughs.

Assist in additional ranch duties as needed.

Compensation and Terms:

The intern position will be paid contract wages (1099) of $85 per day, and paid on a weekly basis.

Workweek based on Monday through Friday, 5 days a week; some weekends will be required and paid a daily rate of $100 per day.

Housing provided at the ranch if needed, but will NOT include meals.
